“We are a railway and not an infrastructure maintenance facility. Our job is to transport people and goods. We operate an infrastructure only for this purpose.” This powerful message, delivered by Rhätische Bahn during a presentation on best practices, set the tone for a productive day at the FTE Working Groups meeting in Vienna. Hosted by Rail Cargo Group, our members came together to tackle some of the most pressing issues in rail capacity management.Key topics included:🔹 Strategies for coordinating and consulting Temporary Capacity Restrictions (TCRs) to minimise disruption to rail operations.🔸 A workshop session on Commercial Conditions and KPIs.🔹 Discussions on the Draft Capacity Regulation.🔸 A very interesting presentation from EuroLink.🔹 An initiative from NMBS-SNCB focusing on capacity factors that enhance production robustness and quality.Thank you to all who participated and contributed to these vital discussions. Together, we are shaping the future of rail transport. #Rail #ConnectingEurope #WorkingGroup #ForumTrainEurope

🎉 CEF-Funding Awarded to a Consortium of FTE Members🚆 The TTR Programme is a pioneering initiative aimed at revolutionising the planning and allocation of rail network capacity. Jointly developed by railway undertakings and infrastructure managers, the initiative has drawn substantial interest from the European Commission, which has drafted a Regulation that heavily incorporates the innovative ideas and processes from the TTR Programme. Learn more about TTR in the video below 👇 🤝 Recognising the extensive adaptations required, a consortium of three FTE members – Rail Cargo Group, ÖBB-Personenverkehr, and DB Cargo – has united to seek co-funding through the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union. Now, the Grant Agreement preparation has started for this funding initiative, running from 2024 to 2027, encompasses costs exceeding 3 million euros.🎯 At the heart of the consortium's successful proposal lies a focus on steering Railway Undertaking (RU) requirements within capacity management processes, preparing RU-specific implementations, and developing interfaces to central IT tools. Dissemination activities are also a crucial component, ensuring that towards the end of the funding period, results and best practices will be shared with other RUs.🌍 While FTE will not benefit financially from this funding proposal, it is proud to serve as an associated partner to the consortium. The consortium was formed following an open call to all FTE members within the FTE working groups, highlighting the collaborative spirit that defines the FTE platform. This platform will be instrumental in sharing the results and making them accessible to a wide range of railway undertakings.#EU #CEFTransport #Rail #ConnectingEurope

📅 The FTE Community gathered in #Ljubljana this week for the FTE Coordination Conferences C/D. Following the issuance of the draft offers for train paths for the timetable year 2025, Railway Undertakings and Applicants have officially embarked on the observation phase. However, this was not the only topic dealt with during this week in Ljubljana. The conference also provided a dynamic platform for addressing late path requests and fine-tuning the logistics of passenger rolling stock for cross-border services in 2025. Representatives from Infrastructure Managers participated in an advisory role at the conference.🙌 While data and deadlines are key aspects of the conference, an important part is also to nurture a community spirit among industry peers to jointly work on future challenges. This sentiment was beautifully encapsulated at the joint dinner, where we celebrated the contributions of some long-standing members who are bidding their farewell with a rousing round of applause.#Rail #EuropeanRailways #CrossBorder #ConnectingEurope

🤝 Railway Undertakings and Infrastructure Managers get together to discuss better approaches to the re-scheduling of train runs when track works become necessary.🎯 A significant step forward was taken when 15 RUs and 10 IMs joined a workshop organised by FTE. The goal was clear: to refine a new, realistic method for the rescheduling of trains impacted by Temporary Capacity Restrictions (TCRs). This approach was conceptualised by FTE members in the last months and introduced to infrastructure managers in the Capacity Management Advisory Group, jointly co-chaired by FTE and RNE. It was made clear from the beginning that the experience from IM experts is crucial for the development of a sustainable approach. The dedicated workshop allowed for more in-depth discussions of the approach. Key components are:🔹 Collaborative efforts between IMs and RUs to develop an alternative timetable🔹 Integrated process approach to re-plan trains affected by works starting from long term planning until the running timetable🔹 RUs need to get fully harmonised international timetables from origin to destination🔹 Safeguarding capacity for re-routing: Anticipating capacity needs on re-routing lines for TCRs with significant impact🔹 TCR categorisation should better reflect the real impact on trains 🔹 Establishment of a 'frozen period ' where no additional TCRs would be planned or already planned TCRs cannot be changed🔹 Timetable slices in the Running Timetable to ensure a synchronised elaboration of well-harmonised traffic solutions🔹 More stability of train schedules to allow for earlier ticket sales 🛤️ While not all open questions were resolved yet, the participants agreed that it is important to reach a common approach in this important matter. The ambition is to provide a more reliable offer to the customers and make rail more competitive.👉 Read the full article on our website: https://lnkd.in/dZBZ8Nmj #Rail #Railway #ConnectingEurope

Good statement from ERFA and the associations involved. It remains to be added that the Council‘s position does not bring any improvements for cross-border passenger traffic either, particularly in the area of insufficient coordination of temporary capacity restrictions.

📢FTE Community calls for Common European Rules in Capacity Management📝After the European Commission has published the draft for a Capacity Regulation, the European Parliament and now also the Council of the European Union have agreed on their respective positions.Ahead of the pivotal Trilogue discussions, the FTE members have adopted a statement underlining their demands at the Plenary Assembly on 6 June 2024:➡️ Common European rules, not superseded by national ones➡️ Increased reliability of rail services, for which the Regulation shall allow improvements in TCR planning procedures and real reciprocal incentives towards IMs to stick to commitments made➡️ A common, independent RU voice towards ENIM/NC to provide market input to the IMs work➡️ A regulatory oversight on the work of ENIM/NC work to balance the strong IM powers over RUs business. This shall cover European Frameworks as well as cross-border planning.➡️ An effective performance review, including meaningful KPIs🤝The FTE members emphasise the importance of the final legislation reflecting the collective European vision.🔍For more information on the findings of the technical analysis done by the FTE Community, see our website: https://lnkd.in/dts3VCpc #EuropeanRailways #CapacityRegulation #ConnectingEurope
