The first fog gate was near the beginning at the end of all the drops. Just play from the beginning stay on the right side and drop through all the holes till none are left. One you done that you will see a plank leading over the edge, stand on it then drop to ground below. You will find the mace in that area.

Mace is a Hammer Weapon in Demon's Souls and Demon's Souls Remake. Hammer can inflict single powerful strikes against hostile characters, but they are rather slow. Baby's Nail is a rare dagger in Demon's Souls. It can be obtained by looting the body behind the altar in the back of the Fool's Idol boss room (just be careful not to step close to the altar, or you will be taken to Upper Latria). Alternatively, this weapon can be obtained by killing Sage Freke.

Eroded Demon's Soul can be traded to Sage Freke for the spell Acid Cloud.

Blessed Mace is a Mace found in the first 2 Golden Sun games. They are occasionally dropped by Thunder Lizards in Venus Lighthouse and Crossbone Isle (in Golden Sun) and by Turtle Dragons in the Great Western Sea and Treasure Isle (in The Lost Age).

Then you follow the questline until the door opens to the Nightmare Cathedral, which is behind breaking walls and a switch in the cemetery area. Then you'll get the Necronomicon. The final mace is your reward for clearing the crypt that you access by breaking the right-most wall in this room.
